Continuing Education (CE)

The National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) established its Approved Provider (AP) program to serve as a key component of its massage therapy and bodywork credential. An NCBTMB Board Approved Continuing Education Approved Provider, is a continuing education instructor who has exhibited quality instruction of the highest standards throughout the massage therapy and bodywork profession. The principal intent of the AP program was to ensure that certificants had access to reliable, credible, high-quality continuing education throughout their careers. By obtaining continuing education (CE), a practitioner demonstrates a personal and public commitment to enhance continued competence in the massage and/or bodywork profession. Board Certificants must recertify every two years, and are required to earn 24 credits from an NCBTMB Approved Provider within that two-year period.

The New York State Education Department, Office of the Professions, has instituted new requirements for continuing education (CE) and CE instructors. New York will only recognize CE from sponsors or instructors who are sponsored by an approved entity. NCBTMB is an approved sponsor for continuing education in New York.

Dr. Robert Borzone is an Approved Provider for NCBTMB and The New York State Education Department, Office of the Professions.

Craniosacral Therapy & Myofascial Release Part I

6 CEU’s for Licensed Massage Therapists

Part I will delineate the structures, mechanisms, assessment and treatment of the craniosacral rhythmical impulse. The craniosacral system is organized around the meningeal membranes and is intimately related to the function of the nervous system, musculoskeletal system and related fascia. It has profound effects on the circulatory, lymphatic, endocrine, immune, respiratory and energy systems.

Many people suffer from dysfunctions and diseases of unknown etiology for which conventional medicine has proved ineffective. Craniosacral therapy and myofascial release techniques give practitioners another perspective with which to evaluate and treat their patients and offer them hope for correcting their dysfunctions.

A basic ten-step protocol for evaluation and care of the patient will be presented as well as the fundamentals of myofascial release techniques.

Craniosacral Therapy & Myofascial Release Part II

6 CEU’s for Licensed Massage Therapists

In Part II, the ten-step protocol used to assess and balance this fundamental rhythm of the body will be reviewed and the indirect techniques used will then be expanded to include the assessment and treatment of the TMJ and facial bones. Direct techniques will be introduced for the treatment of TMJ imbalances. The myofascial release techniques will also be expanded to include positional release of the extremities and cervical spine.

The focus of the workshop is hands-on practice of these techniques and presentation of specific protocols for treating various conditions. Discussion of these techniques will include the work of both Dr. John Upledger and John Barnes, who developed these systems of treatment. At the completion of this workshop, the participant will have a working understanding of the craniosacral and myofascial systems and assessment and treatment techniques for the entire body. Discussion of specific cases and questions concerning material from Part I and Part II will also be covered. This workshop is open to those who have completed Part I.

Trigger Point Therapy Workshop

6 CEU’s for Licensed Massage Therapists

Myofascial trigger points are very common clinical entities which can produce severe and sometimes chronic pain. This workshop will delineate the causes, signs and symptoms, assessment and treatment of some of the more common trigger points in the body. Participants will learn how to differentiate myofascial trigger points according to the patterns of referred pain and through palpation techniques. Specific range of motion tests before and after the treatments will demonstrate the effectiveness of the application of these techniques. Nutritional factors for the prevention and treatment of myofascial syndromes will also be presented.
